Mantras for Yoga
Friday April 24, 2026 1:30pm - 2:45pm MST

Using mantras, Ancient Indian syllables, Joss leads singers on a yogic journey through their own voice in a safe encouraging environment of self-discovery. Joss believes in the power of healing through your own voice and the voices of others. The practice of Mantra chanting (kirtan) and recitation (japa) can quiet the mind, relax the body, and create a feeling of love in the heart. Come experience this ancient practice of Mantras. All levels are welcome!
What Person Takes Away:
An experience of using mantras that are relevant to yoga practice.

Joss has developed a unique style of teaching that encourages students to experience the joy of their own voice in a safe and supportive environment. He draws from his own experiences and wisdom, as well as the techniques developed by master music teachers including Montino Bourbon. He works with all levels, helping each individual find their own voice and dive into the ocean of sound. Joss has taught in the Netherlands, Italy, Japan, Hawaii and the United States including at retreat centers Esalen, Heartwood, Pema Osel Ling and Harbin Hot Springs.

“Joss Jaffe gives a joyful, powerful workshop that allows students to experience the beauty of their voices - even those of us with fears and insecurities about singing! The vibration was so high we practically floated out, feeling as if we could sing with Krishna’s gopis, making beautiful music. Joss is truly a gifted teacher.”
--Renée Tillotson, owner, Still & Moving Center Honolulu Hawaii.

The Science of Stillness- Finding Calm in a World of Motion
Friday April 24, 2026 3:30pm - 4:30pm MST
In a culture that prizes productivity and constant motion, stillness can feel elusive—or even uncomfortable. Yet both yoga philosophy and modern neuroscience affirm that stillness is not passive. It is an active state that restores balance to the nervous system, replenishes energy, and allows clarity and creativity to emerge.

This session explores the profound impact of stillness on the body, mind, and spirit. Through the lens of neuroscience, we will look at what happens in the brain and nervous system when we pause, rest, and turn inward. Drawing on yogic teachings, we will remember that stillness is a practice of returning home to ourselves, reconnecting with presence and inner wisdom.

Participants will be guided through experiential practices that make stillness accessible in daily life: breath awareness, micro-meditations, and gentle pauses that can be integrated into even the busiest schedule. Along the way, we will reflect on the barriers that keep us in motion and discover how small shifts toward stillness can transform stress into spaciousness.

You will leave with both a renewed appreciation for stillness and a toolkit of simple practices to ground, restore, and reconnect. Stillness becomes not just a practice on the mat, but a science-backed pathway to resilience and joy.

Stillness as Medicine: Yoga Nidra and Ancestral Ways of Knowing
Friday April 24, 2026 7:00pm - 8:00pm MST
In a world of constant stimulation and urgency, the nervous system often remains in a state of heightened alert. This session invites participants into deep rest through a yoga nidra practice that integrates breath awareness, guided imagery, and storytelling. Drawing from her background as a board-certified music therapist and her lived Indigenous lineage as a member of Cochiti Pueblo, Kate Herrera Jenkins offers rest as both medicine and remembrance.

Story is woven gently throughout the practice as a regulating and integrative force, honoring Indigenous traditions where story serves to orient, teach, and restore balance. You will be guided through accessible practices and prolonged stillness designed to support safety and nervous system regulation. Rather than bypassing experience, the session emphasizes presence, listening, and connection—allowing the body to process and integrate without effort or performance.

Designed for yoga practitioners, teachers, and wellness professionals, this offering bridges science and soul. You will leave with a deeper understanding of breath as regulation, story as integration, and stillness as resilience, along with practical tools you can incorporate into personal practice or professional settings.
